I thought about making baked beans with hot dogs for dinner tonight but decided to try something different.? I mixed 1 can (22 oz.) Bush Grilling Beans (Steakhouse Flavor) and 1 lb. ground beef browned and drained.? After heating, I served it over a hamburger bun, topping it with slaw.? Boy was this good!? And how can you get any simpler?? Of course you can change the flavor by changing the flavor of the baked beans.

This recipe is actually made from unbaked dinner rolls. I added apples, sugar, nuts and seasonings to make these delicious little rolls. But, I’ve pulled this recipe and sent it to the manuscript file for Think With Your Taste Buds – Desserts. Watch for it as well as other simple desserts later this year.

2 baking potatoes butter cheese sour cream bacon, cooked chives Preheat oven to 400 degrees.? I bake my potatoes in the microwave.? I wash them, punch holes in both ends and several going around the potatoes.? Put them on a paper plate.? Cover them with a very wet paper towel and microwave about 20 minutes, checking them after about 15 minutes.? After the potatoes are cooked, cut them into 4ths and place them in a baking dish sprayed with non stick spray.? Top with butter, sprinkle with cheese, dot with sour cream, add crumbled bacon, and add chives.? Bake until hot and cheese is melted. This idea started with a recipe I found using baked potatoes, topped with instant mashed potatoes, cheese and bacon.? I changed it to the above and it sure is good.

Butter vs. Margarine – According to Duke University

This was sent to me and I found it quite interesting so I thought I would pass it along. Have you ever wondered which is better — butter or margarine — when it comes to your health? First, it’s important to know that both are high in fat and calories. Both butter and regular margarine weigh in at around 35 to 45 calories per teaspoon. (If you use reduced-fat margarine, a whole tablespoon gives you the same number of calories.) Butter also contains both cholesterol and saturated fat, and diets high in these substances have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease. Too much cholesterol can clog the arteries, while saturated fat has been shown to increase levels of LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol. Margarine, which is made from vegetable oils, doesn’t contain cholesterol. But that doesn’t mean it’s good for your heart. To render the oils solid at room temperature, hydrogen is added during processing, creating trans fats. These fats are thought to be even more harmful to the heart than saturated fats because they not only raise LDL cholesterol but also lower HDL, or “good,” cholesterol. Some stick margarines contain relatively high amounts of trans fats, while softer margarines (tub and squeeze versions) usually contain less (if any). However, even some stick margarines are free of trans fats, so be sure to check labels. So what’s a person to do? Cut down on both butter and margarine! Try replacing them with healthier options whenever you can. Butter sprays, for example, add buttery flavor to potatoes, vegetables, and other foods without adding many calories. Butter-flavored sprinkles and trans fat–free spreads can also add flavor with fewer calories and less fat. When sautéing foods, use a cooking spray or a heart-healthy oil like olive or canola, and when baking, try cutting the butter or margarine called for in the recipe by a third. You can also try replacing some or

Sometimes simple is best.? I came in the other night and wanted something simple but tasty and this is what I ended up with.? I put my chicken in a baking dish sprayed with non-stick spray, drizzled it with a little olive oil, sprinkled it with a little garlic/sea salt and fresh Rosemary, put it in the oven at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes.? Then I added my broccoli and cauliflower, baked it for about another 15 minutes and dinner was done!? For something so simple, this was so good and left me with only one dish to wash.

This is a cake recipe sent to me by my lovely friend Lillian with her blessings for making changes.? I’ll give you the original version and then my changes. Hawkeye Cake 1 Lemon Supreme cake mix (baked as per instructions on box) 1 can crushed pineapple, undrained (I used a 20 oz. can) 1/2 cup sugar 1 large (6 oz.) pkg vanilla pudding (prepared as diected on box) Dream Whip (or whipping cream) Cook pineapple and sugar.? Put small holes in the baked cake (a two tined fork does a good job).? Pour pineapple mixture over hot cake.? When cooled, cover with vanilla pudding.? Spread Dream Whip or whipped cream over the top.? Keeps well and can be frozen.? Refrigerate cake. Changes – You could use coconut cream pudding with a yellow cake mix or use some coconut in the batter of the cake.? Use Cool Whip instead of whipping cream or Dream Whip. Lillian is 100% correct in her statement to me “I know that you can find a million changes for this recipe.”? I made my changes using coconut pudding, coconut extract in the cake mix and by using coconut milk in the pudding.? Work with this recipe and make your own changes.? View my recipe by going to Martha’s Recipe Cabinet. ? I’ve called mine Coconut Ice Box Cake

So you all know by now that we are a pretty busy household right?? Between ice skating lessons, karate classes and BMX races and practices you must wonder how we do all of that stuff and still eat home cooked, real food meals, right?? This recipe for baked chicken fingers is one of my favorite go to recipes for a busy weeknight.? From start to finish it takes just 15 minutes for me to bread them and bake them and have them on the table for the kids.? Almost as fast as going to McDonald’s and getting the chicken nuggets and bringing them home for dinner… Baked Chicken Fingers Ingredients: 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast halves 1 egg, beaten 1 cup AP Flour 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 2 cups Italian breadcrumbs Directions: Preheat oven to 400F Cut chicken breasts into thin strips, about one inch wide. Longer sections can be cut in half to have uniform pieces. Mix flour and seasonings (garlic, salt, and pepper) well in a bowl. Dip chicken pieces into flour mixture. then egg mixture, and then finally in the Italian breadcrumbs. Place on baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. 6 Bake at for 9-11 minutes, until crispy on outside and lightly browned. ***The girls like these dipped in Ranch Dressing, ketchup, BBQ Sauce or even Honey Mustard. ****To have these ready in 15 minutes I have to cut the chicken into thin strips earlier in the day.? Another time saver is to bread them and refrigerate them until ready to use and then just plop them in a preheated oven.? See you can eat well even when as busy as we are!!!
