Rightfully Mine – Gods Equal Rights Amendment Review

I’ve just posted my review and the Author’s favorite recipe to my site A Book and A Dish .? This book really hit home with me because a couple of months ago I decided to read the Bible from the beginning to the end.? The story written by Author Aggie Villanueva takes place just before the death of Moses and the Jordan crossing.? I even recognized some of the events that take place in the book as some I had read in the Bible.? It’s a great book with a built-in lesson for everyone.?

A new Review for Stir, Laugh, Repeat!

Cooking is Personal, February 27, 2010 By G. McDowell (NE) (REAL NAME) Cooking is personal to me. That is why I find this little cookbook so intriguing. The book is small in stature so I can slip it into my purse and thumb through it while I am “waiting.” The book is “large” in quick recipes that can be completed with items “on hand.” Martha completes the book with side notes so you have the feeling you are talking to her over a cup of coffee. Who does not like to share quick tips to make an everyday task…cooking…a little more personal. Martha I like your idea of “muffin” meatloaf…my grand daughters will love it!

A must read Review of Stir, Laugh, Repeat

Rita Freud “book gal” (NJ) Step into your kitchen, cook “from scratch” and end up with a tasty dish to place before friends and family, that is assuming you have brought “Stir, Laugh, Repeat” with you. Tuck it under your apron. This way instead of Martha A. Cheves (the author), you get all the credit. Don’t forget to dab your brow a bit to make it look like you have labored away to create this delicious meal. It’s hard to say what I like the most about this book – the “dinner’s ready” easy recipes, the anecdotes about each recipe or the tidbits of useful information. Each is served up with straightforward charm. All I know is that every time I open it to select something to make, I find myself reading page after page and smiling. The recipes are easy to follow. The anecdotes and tips make you feel like you have a friend in the kitchen with you, just chatting about cooking, offering some advice while you prepare a dish. My favorite kind of cookbook is a cookbook that tells how each recipe came to be and how it was enjoyed, or in some cases, adjusted. Martha’s book is already a favorite of mine. I have a cautionary tale though. I have to accept that if I make Martha’s scrumptious coconut loaf cake every week, there are consequences. In that case, I would have to stir, laugh, repeat, and do some extra sit ups.

Butternut Cake

Some of you may already know that I do book reviews. Friday I received a cookbook to review from Country Bob’s, Inc. which makes Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce. I wanted to share my review for their cookbook with all of you. The cookbook is great and the recipe below is wonderful. I’m including a picture of a slice of my cake using their recipe. Butternut Cake 1 cup vegetable shortening 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 2 cups self-rising flour 1 cup milk 1 Tbl. vanilla butternut flavoring oz. cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine, softened 1 pkg. (1 lb.) confectioners’ sugar 1 tbl. vanilla butternut flavoring 1 cup chopped nuts Cream the shortening and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and beat until well mixed. Add the self-rising flour and milk alternately, beating well after each addition. Beat in 1 Tbl. flavoring. Pour the batter into 3 greased and floured 9″ cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees until the layers test done. Cool in the pans on wire racks for about 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely on wire wracks. Beat cream cheese and margarine in a mixing bowl until well blended. Add confectioners’ sugar gradually, beating until of spreading consistency. Beat in 1 Tbl. flavoring. Add the nuts and stir until well mixed. Spread between the layers and over the top and side of the cake. Yields 12 – 16 servings. Country Bob’s Cookbook – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat The above is just a sample of the delicious recipes included in this book. You’ll find recipes for everything from Wingettes to Country Bob’s Chip Dip in the Appetizer section. There is Sour Cream Slaw Dressing and Cucumber and Tomato Salad in the Salad section. And Foil-Wrapped Chicken and Grilled Chicken-in-a-Pocket in the grilling section. Most of the dishes are made using Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce, which I’ve used and love. The flavor blends of this sauce adds the perfect touch to anything from baked beans to meatloaf. And I can’t wait to try their recipe for Country Bob’s Steak Taco in the main dish section. I made the above cake and have to admit that I did make 3 changes. I used butter instead of the margarine and I used black walnut flavoring instead of the butternut. My reasons? I always bake with butter and I had no butternut flavoring so I substituted using the black walnut. My only other change was that I baked mine in a tube pan instead of 3 cake pans. Again, my reason? I just like to bake cakes in tube pans. But I still ended

Stir, Laugh, Repeat – Book Review by Eileen Thornton – UK

Yes, I have to pass on my book reviews. This one just came in from Eileen Thornton in the UK. Stir, Laugh, Repeat Finding Joy While Playing in the Kitchen By Martha A Cheves Publisher: Tate Publishing & Enterprises ISBN: 978-60462-818-0 I found this to be a most enjoyable cookery book. Not only are the recipes delicious, but also they are so very easy to follow and I love the stories that appear at the end of each recipe. One of the things that appealed to me was that Martha uses basic ingredients, the kind you would find in your store cupboard at home. There is no need for a trip to the high-class food stores to find some exotic ingredient for a special recipe that you know you will never use again. Yet the end result is just as delicious as anything you might have spent hours working over a hot stove for. Also Martha rounds off each recipe with a Tip. Sometimes the tips are about the preceding recipe, while others are there simply for good measure. Either way, they are both useful and sensible and made me wonder ‘why on earth didn’t I think of that?’ This is a cookery book I will refer to over and over again.
